Ex-Pres. Duterte says Cha-cha via bribery 'repugnant, a disgraceful act'

Former President Rodrigo Duterte has described as "repugnant" and "disgraceful" the alleged bribery to gain signatures for Charter change (Cha-cha).

"It does not only leave a bad taste in the mouth, actually it's almost, how should I term it, repugnant, a disgraceful act," Duterte said in an interview with Banateros Brothers on Facebook.

The former leader said he is not in favor of such move.

"Hindi ako pabor, kung ganun hintuin na lang nila (I'm not in favor, if that's the case then they should stop it)," he said.

Some lawmakers have disclosed reports of people being paid P100 in exchange for their signature on a people's initiative petition to revise the 1987 Constitution.

According to Duterte, a "new constitution" that may result from the people's initiative "will just destroy the nation" and "open the floodgates of political abuses."

Several senators have slammed the alleged signature campaign for people's initiative, including Imee Marcos, Jinggoy Estrada, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
