VP Sara Duterte says she’ll run for office again

Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday declared that she will run for office again.

According to a report on 24 Oras by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao's Jandi Esteban, Duterte made the statement during a speech at an event in Davao City.

"I heard my brothers, Mayor Baste and Congressman Pulong, say that they will not run in the next election, so I am here today to campaign with you because I will run in the next election," she said in Bisaya, referring to Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte and Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte.

Duterte did not say what position she plans to run for, but her term as vice president ends in 2028. The next elections will be held in 2025 for Senate, congressional, and local seats.

GMA Integrated News has sought clarification from the Office of the Vice President.

Duterte also expressed dismay at the alleged buying of signatures for a supposed people's initiative to amend certain provisions of the Constitution.

"It is an insult to the ordinary and poor Filipinos. It reflects the character of politicians, of vote-buying during elections, so nakakasama ng loob na ginaganoon yung mga tao na kailangan pa suhulan para papirmahin sa people’s initiative [it's angering that there are attempts to bribe people to sign the people's initiative]," she said. — BM, GMA Integrated News
