Marcos leaves for Brunei to attend Prince Abdul Mateen's wedding
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. traveled to Brunei on Saturday evening to attend the wedding of Prince Abdul Mateen, a son of the oil-rich sultanate’s ruler, Hassanal Bolkiah.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, Marcos is expected to join other world leaders in the wedding celebration, having received an invitation from Bolkiah.
''The President's attendance at the royal wedding reaffirms the strength of the bilateral ties between the Philippines and Brunei,’’ the PCO said.
Marcos will return to the Philippines on Sunday.
On Thursday, an Islamic marriage ceremony for the 32-year-old prince and Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah, 29, was held inside a gold-domed mosque in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Mateen is the 10th child of Sultan Bolkiah—the world's longest reigning monarch and once the richest man on the planet—and is well down the succession pecking order.
His bride—the granddaughter of one of his father's key advisers—reportedly has a fashion brand and co-owns a tourism business. — with a report from Agence France-Presse/VBL, GMA Integrated News
