Andas rope breaks during Traslacion 2024 — Quiapo Church

One of the two ropes pulling the andas of the Black Nazarene image was broken during Traslacion on Tuesday, according to the Quiapo Church.

Devotees brought the part of the rope that broke off back to the Quiapo Church at around 1 p.m.

"Confirmed po ito. Naiuwi na po sa Simbahan ang naputol na lubid (It is confirmed. The rope has been returned to the Church)," Quiapo Church communications coordinator Silgen Cabrito said.

The incident happened before the andas turned to Arlegui Street and Quezon Boulevard.

Cabrito said the incident may have an effect to the flow of Traslacion as he expressed hope that the procession will remain orderly.

He added that it was not the first time the rope was cut.

In a message at about 3 p.m. Tuesday, the Quiapo Church clarified that two pieces of rope were still being used for the procession.

"Ang kaliwang bahagi lang po nito ang umiksi dahil sa pagkaputol," the message read.
