DILG: Will form system to judge PH’s cleanest barangays

The Department of Interior and Local Government said it will form a recognition system that will monitor, select and award the cleanest barangays in the country, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Balita sa Tanghali on Sunday.

The DILG said the initiative is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. in the form of the ‘Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para sa Malinis na Bayan’ or the KALINISAN Program

On Saturday, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos led the nationwide launch of the KALINISAN Program at the Baseco Compound in Manila on Saturday.

KALINISAN is the DILG’s latest convergence initiative that aims to promote a cleaner and safer environment by encouraging communities to adopt the spirit of bayanihan or cooperation.

In line with this, Abalos is calling on LGUs all across the country to invest in solid waste management and ecological practices as well as calling on local authorities to pass ordinances that will penalize community service for those caught throwing trash in public spaces.—RF, GMA Integrated News
