Marcos lists 2024 long weekends, calls on public to plan well

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Thursday called on the public to plan well and ahead as he disclosed the long weekends for 2024.

"Lubusin natin ang mga long weekend ngayong 2024 kasama ang ating pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay!" Marcos said in a post on Instagram.

(Let us spend the long weekends this 2024 with our families and loved ones!)

"Paghandaan din nating mabuti ang ating mga transaksyon at bakasyon para sa isang produktibo at masaganang taon," he added.

(Let us plan well the transactions and vacations that we will make for a prosperous and productive year.)

The long weekends are:

  • March 28 (Maundy Thursday), 29 (Good Friday), 30 (Black Saturday) and 31 (Easter Sunday)
  • August 24 (Saturday), 25 (Sunday) and 26 (National Heroes Day)
  • November 1 (All Saints' Day), 2 (All Souls' Day) and 3 (Sunday)
  • December 28 (Saturday), 29 (Sunday), 30 (Rizal Day) and 31 (Last Day of the Year, a special non-working day)

In October last year, Malacañang released the list of regular and special non-working holidays for the year 2024.

The list of regular holidays provided under Proclamation 368, dated October 11, 2023 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin as declared by Marcos are the following:

  • January 1 - New Year’s Day
  • March 28 - Maundy Thursday
  • March 29 - Good Friday
  • April 9  - Araw ng Kagitingan
  • May 1 - Labor Day
  • June 12 - Independence Day
  • August 26 - National Heroes Day (Last Monday of August)
  • November 30 - Bonifacio Day
  • December 25 - Christmas Day
  • December 30 - Rizal Day

The list, however, does not include February 25, which marks the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the event that ended the decades-long rule of Marcos' father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Malacañang had explained that the commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution was not included in the list because February 25, 2024 falls on a Sunday.

Provincial holidays

Meanwhile, Malacañang also declared holidays in some provinces to commemorate their founding anniversaries or celebrate various festivals.

Proclamation No. 424 declared February 3 a holiday in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, as this marks its 74th founding anniversary.

On the other hand, through Proclamation No. 423, Palace also declared January 26 a special non-working day in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental for the celebration of the Dinagsa Festival.

In Lipa City, Batangas, February 20 was declared as a holiday under Proclamation No. 422 to celebrate the Coffee Festival.

Proclamation No. 417, meanwhile, declared January 29 a special non-working day in Tantangan, South Cotabato to commemorate the its 63rd anniversary as well as the Kulitangtang Festival. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA Integrated News
