TRB expects heavy traffic in tollways on Saturday, Dec. 23
The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) is expecting heavy traffic along the country's expressways this Saturday, Dec. 22, on the weekend before Christmas Day.
Interviewed on Dobol B sa GTV, TRB spokesperson Julius Corpuz said the traffic volume on Friday night was not as heavy as expected since many motorists and commuters apparently opted to avoid the long weekend traffic grind.
With this, Corpuz said Saturday would be the day when motorists would flock to expressways to go out of Metro Manila.
"Inaasahan namin na the traffic based on historical experiences baka umabot ng gabi ang heavy traffic," he said.
(Based on historical experiences, we expect traffic to be heavy even up to the evening.)
Nonetheless, the TRB official said traffic personnel of both the toll operators and the agency are prepositioned to assist motorists during the heavy traffic.
Corpuz added that the higher adoption rate for RFID could help ease the congestion along toll plazas, noting that the ratio of RFID users increased to 80%-85% from the previous 70%. — Ted Cordero/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
