DOJ: 6 accused in missing sabungeros case post bail

All six of the accused in the case of six missing sabungeros have already posted bail, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Tuesday.

"They all posted surety bond already," Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Richard Fadullon told GMA Integrated News.

Last week, Fadullon said a Manila Regional Trial Court allowed accused Julie Patidongan, Gleer Codilla, Mark Carlo Zabala, Virgilio Bayog, Johnny Consolacion, and Roberto Matillano Jr. to post bail at P3 million each.

According to the Rules of Criminal Procedure, bail may be given in the form of corporate surety through qualified corporations that are authorized to provide the same, subscribed jointly by the accused and an officer authorized by its board of directors.

Meanwhile, Fadullon said prosecutors will appeal the court order which allowed the accused to post bail.

"We will be filing an MR (motion for reconsideration) to the order granting bail," he said.

The six accused are facing six counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention over the disappearance of sabungeros John Claude Inonog, Rondel Cristorum, Mark Joseph Velasco, Rowel Gomez, and brothers James Baccay and Marlon Baccay.

The sabungeros left Tanay, Rizal at 1 p.m. on Jan. 13, 2022, to go to the Manila Arena but were forced to board a gray van at around 7:30 p.m. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
