5 PH universities land in 2024 QS sustainability list

Five Philippine universities have made it to the 2024 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings in terms of sustainability.

Based on the results released on December 5, the University of the Philippines (UP) once again led the country's roster, placing 231st out of 1,397 institutions in 95 countries and territories. 

Next to UP was Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) which ranked 593rd.

De La Salle University (DLSU) placed in the 981-1000 bracket, while University of Santo Tomas (UST) placed in the 1001-1050 bracket. 

Last was Mapua University, which was in the 1201+ bracket. 

It was the first time that ADMU, UST, and Mapua made it in QS World University Sustainability Rankings, which was on its second edition this year.

The rankings evaluate how universities take action to tackle the world's most pressing global challenges based on their environmental impact, social Impact, and governance. 

For this year, the University of Toronto in Canada was named the world's most sustainable university, followed by the University of California, Berkeley in the United States, and The University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. —Giselle Ombay/KBK, GMA Integrated News
