PISTON sets two-day transport strike on Dec. 14-15

Transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) and its allies will hold a two-day nationwide transport strike later this week, Allan Gatus reported on Super Radyo dzBB on Monday.

In a press conference, the group said the nationwide transport strike will be held on Thursday, December 14, and Friday, December 15.

Joining the strike are PISTON-allied groups in Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog, the report said.

The groups are still protesting the December 31 deadline for PUV consolidation that they said will result in the disenfranchisement of many jeepney operators and drivers.

The government has given jeepney operators until December 31 this year to enlist for modernized public utility vehicles as part of a modernization program.

Militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) will join the strike, the report said.
