Bicam panel OKs Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers

The Senate and the House of Representatives bicameral conference committee on Wednesday approved the reconciled version of a measure that will institutionalize the protection of the rights of Filipino seafarers. 

The Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers will also serve as a guarantee to the international community that the Philippines will comply with its obligations to international conventions.

Senator Raffy Tulfo, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Migrant Workers, led the Senate panel in the bicameral meeting with Senate Majority Floor Leader Joel Villanueva and Senators Chiz Escudero, Risa Hontiveros, and Imee Marcos.

The House panel was led by Kabayan Partylist Rep. Ron Salo.  He was joined by Representatives Marissa Magsino, Sandro Gonzalez,  Khymer Adan Olaso, and Marlyn Primicias-Agabas.

In September, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. certified the measure as urgent. —Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
