AMID RUMORS

Recto on being next Finance secretary: ‘I have no idea’

House Deputy Speaker Ralph Recto on Thursday dismissed rumors that he was appointed as the new Finance secretary.

“I have no idea. I cannot comment on that. That’s the President to decide,” Recto told reporters in an ambush interview during the bicameral conference committee hearing on the proposed P5.7 trillion national budget for 2024.

Asked if President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. offered him the post or talked to him about the supposed appointment, the Batangas representative said he is currently "focused here on the budget."

Rumors of Recto’s appointment were floated when he joined President in his recent trip to the United States for the 30th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit.
