Marcos: VP Sara does not deserve to be impeached
HONOLULU, Hawaii — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday (PH time) said Vice President Sara Duterte does not deserve to be impeached amid the claim of a lawmaker that some members of the House of Representatives are talking about it.
“Binabantayan namin nang mabuti (We're closely monitoring this) because we don’t want her to be impeached, we don’t want her to… she does not deserved to be impeached so we will make sure that this is something we will pay very close attention to,” Marcos said in an interview with reporters here.
Marcos said it impeachment talks are not unusual since “there will always be an element that would want to change the result of an election.”
“Well, lahat naman kami mayroong ganyan eh (we all have detractors). So, I don’t think it’s particularly unusual, I don’t think it’s particularly worrisome,” he said.
Asked if there is any UniTeam crack, Marcos said, “I don’t think so. Mas tumitibay nga eh (it even got stronger).”
He also described his relations with Duterte as “excellent.”
“On a professional level, nothing but good things to say about the work she has done in the Department of Education,” Marcos said of his running-mate in the 2022 national elections.
Marcos also said that on a personal level, he and Duterte get along very well.
Meanwhile, in a press briefing in Pasig City, Duterte said she and Marcos had talked about the supposed impeachment plot against her last week before the President departed for the 30th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Summit in the United States.
Duterte said Marcos told her he was aware of the issue.
“I believe I still have the trust of President Marcos Jr. Why? Because before he left, I asked him about the impeachment and he told me the truth that he knows about that impeachment,” the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte said.
In a television interview last week, ACT Teachers party-list Representative France Castro said certain leaders of political parties in the House are talking about impeachment of Duterte.
House Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo, however, denied that there are such talks. —with Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
