Gov't employees appeal for P33,000 minimum wage
A group of government employees on Wednesday lobbied in front of the Senate to call for an increase in their minimum wage to P33,000 per month.
The protest, which was led by the Confederation for Unity Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees (COURAGE), was initiated while the Senate plenary deliberations on the bill containing the national budget for 2024 was ongoing, according to a Super Radyo dzBB report of Mao dela Cruz.
The group said that the value of their current income is no longer keeping pace with rising prices of commodities.
They also decried the lack of priority in increasing the salaries, or even benefits, of ordinary government employees under the proposed 2024 budget.
The group said that the P33,000 minimum wage would be apt to sustain a family of five every month. — Giselle Ombay/BM, GMA Integrated News
