VP Sara: Duterte family going through a political rough patch
Vice President Sara Duterte confessed that the political side of the Duterte family was currently going through a rough patch.
In Jonathan Andal's Saturday 24 Oras Weekend report, the Vice President did not elaborate on the difficulty, but she was grateful to her defenders - among them, Senator Imee Marcos who expressed her support for the Duterte family, and Sara's father the former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Noong 2015, ako ang una at kaisa-isang gobernador na nagdeklara ng suporta para kay President Duterte. At, kahit ako ang nagiisang matitira, maninindigan ako para sa kanya,” said Senator Marcos.
(In 2015, I was the first and only governor to declare support for President Duterte. And, even when I’m the only one left, I will stand by him.)
“Magpapasalamat ako kay Senator Imee Marcos sa kanyang patuloy na pagsuporta sa pulitika sa aming pamilya,” said the Vice President.
(I want to thank Senator Imee Marcos for her continued political support for our family.)
The Vice President's comments came following a row between former President Duterte and House Speaker Martin Romualdez over confidential funds, which saw the former President alleging that the House was the “most rotten institution” in the government.
A resolution supporting Romualdez was signed by congressmen, save for Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Davao City Representative Isidro Ungab.
This in turn resulted in the two representatives losing their posts as deputy speakers.
“Congressman Sid Ungab and Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo have my full support as a politician and as a friend,” said VP Duterte.
Meanwhile, the Vice President said that it was too early to speculate on the possibility of a Sara-Imee partnership for the 2028 Presidential Elections, as well as confidential funds for 2024. — Jiselle Casucian
