NBI probes killing of Misamis Occidental radio anchor —DOJ

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is already investigating the shooting of a radio anchor in Misamis Occidental while he was on live broadcast, according to the Department of Justice on Monday.

The 57-year-old victim, identified as Juan Jumalon or “Johnny Walker,” was at his home-based radio station in Barangay Don Bernardo A. Neri when he was shot at close range on Sunday morning.

“The NBI is on the case already,” Justice spokesperson Mico Clavano said in a message to reporters.

According to Clavano, the NBI received information on the case early and is working on leads to find the unidentified gunman.

He said the bureau is also coordinating with the Presidential Task Force on Media Security for the sharing of information.

In a media briefing, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said the incident was “very sad.”

“Parang hindi ka makapaniwala na totoo ‘yun. Pero kaya nga, kaya ito ‘yung bagay na hindi natin papabayaan mabaon sa limot. Gagawin natin ang lahat para mahuli natin ‘yung mga salarin, salarin ng mga salarin, at aalamin natin kung ano talaga ang storya sa likod nito,” he said.

(It’s like you can’t believe that it is real. But these are the kind of things that we won’t allow to be forgotten. We will do everything to catch those responsible, the brains behind this, and we will find out what the story really is.)

The Police Regional Office 10 has said that it will create a special investigation task group to probe the fatal shooting.
