Comelec completes proclamation of 2023 BSKE winners

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday said it has resolved cases of tie votes in 1,252 barangays for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) as they have completed the proclamation of all winners in the country.

“Happy to inform, Chair, that we are 100% done with the elections. Had just resolved the last tie,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia shared to reporters, citing information from the field.

Earlier today, Comelec Region VI Director Dennis Ausan informed Garcia that they had already resolved ties in 1,204 barangays in the said region excluding the 48 cases which at that time they were trying to resolve.

In a press conference, Garcia said the cases of ties were resolved via draw lots but toss coins are also allowed as an alternative method.

Barangays in Region VI which have cases of ties are in the following localities:

  • Libacao, Aklan
  • Sibalom, Antique
  • Miagao, Iloilo
  • San Joaquin, Iloilo
  • Tigbauan, Iloilo
  • Maasin, Iloilo
  • Carles, Iloilo
  • San Dionisio, Iloilo
  • San Carlos City, Negros Occidental
  • E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental
  • Pulupandan, Negros Occidental
  • San Enrique, Negros Occidental
  • Isabela, Negros Occidental
  • Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental
  • Ilog, Negros Occidental
  • Kabanakalan City, Negros Occidental
  • Bacolod City, Negros Occidental

On Wednesday, the Comelec announced that voting and canvassing in all barangays had already been completed.

All winners of the BSKE were also proclaimed except for those who were ordered suspended by the Comelec and those with tie votes as the electoral boards availed of the five-day notice rule, Garcia said.

The BSKE was held on October 30 except for seven barangays in Lanao del Sur and Samar, which held the elections the following day. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
