Comelec sees mall voting in 2025 after 'very successful' pilot test during BSKE 2023

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said the conduct of the pilot test for the mall voting during the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) had been “very successful.”

“Naisagawa po naming nang very successful ang mall voting dito sa labing isang mall,” Comelec Commissioner Noel Celis said in a press conference.

(The conduct of voting in 11 malls has been very successful.)

As the head of the poll body’s mall voting project, Celis said the international observers were delighted by the new initiative of the Comelec.

He cited the feedback from the voters who were assigned to vote in 11 participating malls across the country.

“Ang sabi ng mga international observers, gusto nila makita uli ito sa 2025. Ang magiging concern na lang naming dito, pinag-uusapan namin sa loob ng Komisyon, baka naman lahat ng mga botante gusto nang bumoto sa mga malls,” he said.

“We will expect na sa 2025 talagang mai-implement natin ito with the positive feedback from all the voters sa 11 malls,” he added.

(The international observers want to see this again in 2025. The only concern that we are discussing is that all voters might want to vote inside the malls. We will expect the implementation of mall voting in 2025 with the positive feedback from all the voters in the 11 participating malls.)

For the 2023 BSKE, the Comelec’s initial voter turnout data are as follows:

SM Sucat

• Barangay: 1,115 of 1,874 voters or 60% turnout
• SK: 320 of the 605 voters or 53% turnout

SM Fairview

• Barangay: 938 out of 1,420 or 66% turnout
• SK: 137out of 389 or 35% turnout

Robinsons Manila

• Barangay: 492 out of 658 or 74.77% turnout
• SK: 103 out of 147 or 70.06% turnout

SM Manila

• Barangay: 492 out of 740 or 66.49% turnout
• SK: 112 out of 187 or 59.89% turnout

Robinsons Las Piñas

• ?arangay: 940 out of 1,602 or 58.68% turnout
• SK: 207 out of 368 or 56.25% turnout

Robinsons Metro East

• Barangay: 263 out of 380 or 69.21% turnout
• SK: 61 out of 85 or 71.76%  turnout

Robinsons Magnolia

• Barangay: 1,298 out of 1,959 or 66.26% turnout
• SK: 254 out of 500 or 50.80% turnout

SM Legazpi:

• Barangay: 218 out of 561 or 38.86% turnout
• SK: 6 out of 6 or 100% turnout

Robinsons Galleria Cebu

• Barangay: 1,119 out of 1,752 or 63.87% turnout
• SK: 378 out of 593 or 63.74% turnout
