Proclamation of 245 BSKE bets suspended over pending DQ cases
The proclamation of at least 245 candidates of today’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BKSE) has been suspended due to pending disqualification cases, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia said.
“We have suspended proclamation of 245 candidates. In fact, we want to file [disqualification cases] to an additional 60 [candidates] before they get proclaimed [winners]. This is so that the Comelec [can] still assume jurisdiction of disqualification case,” he said.
Garcia added that the 2023 BSKE went on as expected, except for a few incidents including the tearing of ballots in Palawan, a physical confrontation in Lanao del Norte, teachers suddenly backing out of their voluntary poll duty in the Bangsamoro Region, and at least two shooting incidents in Lanao del Sur.
Garcia said that the voter turnout for persons deprived of liberty (PDL) in the Bureau of Corrections reached 92%, while PDL voter turnout in Bureau of Jail Management and Penology was at 77%.
“Generally, naging napakaayos ng ating botohan [voting was peaceful]. We will continue monitoring development until proclamation [of winners]. We expect the counting [of votes] to finish around 8 to 8:30 pm, and proclamation [of winners] by 10 to 10:30 pm because we will be counting votes for two positions [at the barangay and SK level],” Garcia added. — BM, GMA Integrated News
