FDA issues public health warning against unauthorized cosmetics

The Department of Health–Food and Drug Administration issued a public health warning against unnotified cosmetic products.

In a statement released by the FDA on Friday, the department warned the public to be cautious of cosmetic products that the FDA had not approved for distribution.

“Such products did not undergo a review by the FDA nor by a local marketing authorization holder, to check compliance with quality and safety standards,” the statement read.

The department reiterated the prohibition of any health product that did not go through the appropriate FDA processes and warned establishments against distributing such products.

“The Food and Drug Administration prohibits the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertising or sponsorship of any health product without the proper authorization from FDA,” the statement said.

The FDA was coordinating with major online shopping platforms to ensure that items on sale strictly complied with existing laws governing cosmetics. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
