LTO says monthly license plate production now at 1 million
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday said it is now producing one million license plates every month.
With this, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II expressed confidence that the agency can address its 80,000 backlog for motor vehicles license plates by the end of November.
"We are now producing one million plates a month. We have dedicated machines that cater only to motor vehicles, and of course, focus din ang production para sa mas maraming backlog sa plaka ng motorsiklo," he said in a statement.
Mendoza said the increased production rate also guarantees that there will be available license plates for newly-bought vehicles, and that they will be able to "wipe out" the backlog for motorcycle vehicles by early 2025.
"I have instructed all District Offices, Regional Directors that we should be able to cater to the current demand as far as motor vehicles are concerned," Mendoza said.
Based on LTO estimate, the current demand for motor vehicle plates is around 2,000 vehicles a day.
"So times two dahil front and back ang plaka, so it's 4,000 a day. We have that capacity, there's no reason why a buyer who comes to you now will have to wait months in order to get their plates," Mendoza said.
The LTO has set the new target for vehicle owners to receive their new plates at seven to 10 days after submission of all required documents.
With the continued demand for plates, Mendoza said eight machines are being used to expedite the production of over 15 million license plates, 13 million of which are for motorcycles.
Meanwhile, a partnership is being sought out with automotive dealers associations to resolve further issues on license plate backlogs, OR/CR delays, and accreditation issues.
"I'd like to sit down with [Philippine Automotive Dealers Association] and discuss the problems in your head on how we can help you dig that and address those problems, how to make things faster and more efficient as far as registration of vehicles is concerned," Mendoza said in a speech during the 5th General Assembly of the Philippine Automotive Dealers Association. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/KBK, GMA Integrated News
