Marcos urges troopers to support new PSG leadership

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Wednesday called on troopers from the Presidential Security Group (PSG) to continue their mandate of safeguarding the country under its new leadership.

Marcos made the call during the change of command ceremony as Brigadier General Jesus Nelson B. Morales takes over as the new PSG commander.

"I trust that you will fully support General Morales just as you did General Zagala with your hallmark integrity, service, and excellence. Together, let us continue to perform our duties to the best of our abilities," Marcos said.

"Let us remain steadfast in safeguarding our country so that we can fulfill our sworn duty of providing a peaceful and secure life for every Filipino," he added.

The President expressed confidence that Morales would continue to protect the presidency, the First Family, and even the entire nation during his term as PSG chief.

"I am confident with your training, your experience, and overall competence that the PSG will continue to fulfill its role of protecting this institution. I certainly look forward to working with you," Marcos said.

He also thanked former PSG commander Brigadier General Ramon Zagala for his service and for protecting the First Family. Zagala is now the commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines' Civil Relations Service.

"You have also maintained and guarded the PSG's distinction as one of the best protectors of the land, worthy to preserve the presidency as a stern and reliable institution," Marcos said.

Meanwhile, Morales expressed gratitude to Marcos for his latest appointment as he committed to lead the PSG with professionalism and dedication.

"I am fully aware with the responsibility that comes with this role and I understand the gravity of my duty that requires unwavering commitment and with this, I pledge to lead this unit with utmost professionalism and dedication," Morales said.

He also vowed to improve the training of the PSG troopers and incorporate technology in their services.

"In this digital age, technology plays a critical role in security. We will endeavor for more technology in our training systems to enhance our capabilities," Morales said.

He also vowed to maintain a culture of orderliness in the PSG, noting that "any breaches of trust will be dealt with swiftly."

The PSG is a combined elite unit tasked to provide security and escort to the President of the Philippines, the President's immediate family, former presidents of the Philippines as well as visiting heads of state. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
