Over 130 sex offenders blocked from entering Philippines in 2023 —BI

The Bureau of Immigration said it has blocked the entry of more than 130 foreign sex offenders to the Philippines since January 2023.

In a statement released by the BI on Tuesday, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco warned that any convicted sex offenders caught attempting to enter the country will be denied and turned back by immigration officers at airports.

“We have established a working arrangement with the different foreign missions in Manila, who regularly provide us with the names of their nationals who have been convicted of sex crimes in their country,” Tansingco said.

The announcement came after the BI’s successful interception of another registered sex offender, 42-year-old Briton Anthony Collins, who was convicted last May 2022 in Manchester, England for voyeurism and taking indecent photos of two minors.

Collins was immediately boarded for the next available flight to his point of origin and placed in the BI’s blacklist of undesirable aliens. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/KG, GMA Integrated News
