Teacher who allegedly slapped student suspended for 90 days
The Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed Tuesday that it has placed under a 90-day preventive suspension the teacher who allegedly slapped a 14-year-old student in Antipolo City which resulted in his death.
Based on a Super Radyo dzBB report of Mark Makalalad, the suspension was imposed while the administrative proceedings against the teacher are still ongoing.
DepEd, however, clarified that the suspension was not a punishment but only part of the preventive measures while the investigation continues.
The victim, Francis Jay Gumikib, died after going into a coma days after he was reportedly hit by his Filipino subject teacher at the Peñafrancia Elementary School.
The results of the medico-legal examination on his death is expected to be released in a week, Hector Sorra, the chief of the Medico-Legal Division Chief of the PNP Forensics Group, said on Monday.
The DepEd Schools Division Office announced last week that a fact-finding investigation team was formed to look into the death of Gumikib.
The Commission on Human Rights (CHR), meanwhile, has also launched an independent investigation into the matter.—Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA Integrated News
