Over 81M Filipinos registered for national ID so far —PSA
More than 81 million Filipinos have registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) ID or national ID so far, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Saturday.
"As of 03 October 2023, a total of 81,005,872 Filipinos have successfully completed PhilSys registration," the PSA said in a press release.
The PSA said this achievement shows the agency's "dedicated efforts and unwavering commitment to ensure an inclusive and accessible national identification system for senior citizens, children, persons with disability (PWDs), and Filipinos living in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs)."
It has brought the PhilSys on Wheels to GIDAs, for instance, to allow residents to register right where they are.
The PhilSys on Wheels has gone to Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, among other areas, for national ID registration.
The PSA said it also deployed personnel to Davao del Norte where they crossed the Liboganon River and walked for up to four hours just to reach the indigenous peoples (IPs) of Sitio Mambago in the municipality of Kapalong. A total of 171 IPs were able to register through this initiative, the PSA said.
The agency said Filipinos can also still register for a national ID at fixed registration centers nationwide which are open to walk-in applicants. —KG, GMA Integrated News
