UST breaks into Times university rankings; Ateneo still top in PH

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) remained the leading university in the Philippines in the latest world university rankings of the Times Higher Education (THE).

Other local universities on the list are the University of the Philippines (1201-1500), De La Salle University (1501+), and the University of Santo Tomas (1501+), which entered the global rankings for the first time.

THE 2024 World University Rankings surveyed 1,904 universities in 108 countries and regions. These were judged using 18 performance indicators grouped into teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry.

With an overall score of 28.3–32.6, ADMU was ranked between 1001 and 1200.

“It is an honor for us to be one of only four Filipino schools in the rankings, and proof that our work in teaching, research, and social engagement is recognized here at home and abroad,” said ADMU president Fr Roberto Yap SJ in a statement.

“I would like to congratulate everyone in the university – all of our academic and non-academic personnel, students, and all of our other stakeholders and partners – for a job well done,” he said.

“And as I always say: these rankings are only guideposts in our journey as a University. So today we celebrate and let us make this piece of good news an additional source of inspiration as we continue to work to be a force for good in the world,” Yap added.

Meanwhile, ten other universities including the Visayas State University, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, University of Eastern Philippines, Central Luzon State University, and Cebu Technological University were given “reporter” status.

A reporter status “indicates that they are active participants in the rankings process, even though they have not been ranked this year,'' THE said.

Also on the list are Tarlac Agricultural University, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Mariano Marcos State University, and Mapua University.
