Marcos bats for whole-of-nation approach vs. drug abuse
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is pushing for a whole-of-nation approach in dealing with drug abuse, indicating that it could lead to chronic illness and social issues if left untreated.
In a speech read by Health Undersecretary Abdullah Dumama Jr. at the drug abuse treatment and rehabilitation center in Agusan del Sur, Marcos said the lack of treatment could result in adverse effects to the society.
“This government believes that drug dependence is a serious mental health condition,” Marcos said.
“If left untreated, it becomes a growing social problem and a significant public health issue,” he added.
Marcos stressed the need for a whole-of-nation approach in combating illegal drugs, saying that lack of treatment for abuse could result in adverse effects to the society.
“Conversely, the lack of access to treatment for substance abuse results in chronic illnesses and other adverse social effects on the community,” Marcos said.
“We must take a whole-of-nation approach to seriously curb the proliferation of illegal drugs,” he added.
He said the approach should include prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and law enforcement to ensure the implemention of the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drug Strategy.
“This also entails the cooperation of government and private sector through early intervention and education in schools, awareness campaigns, and community-based solutions and initiatives,” Marcos said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
