PH crime incidence drops by 7.84% in Jan.-Sep.

The Philippines’ crime incidence declined in the first nine months of 2023, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Overall crime rate has a significant decrease this year. From January 1 to September 15, 2023, we recorded 11,975 fewer incidents compared to the same period last year. This represents a 7.84% drop in the crime rate,” PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda said during the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City.

In particular, the year-to-date number of crime incidents stood at 140,778, down from 152,753 cases in the same period last year.

“The Philippine National Police has been tirelessly working to ensure the safety and security of our beloved nation,” the PNP Chief said.

“Furthermore, our campaign against illegal drugs has shown remarkable progress,” he added.

The PNP also seized P7.2 billion worth of illegal drugs since the beginning of this year through 34,496 operations conducted.

“In our relentless pursuit of justice, we have made significant strides in apprehending wanted persons… we have arrested a total of 54,653 individuals, including 56 wanted persons with rewards,” Acorda said.

Moreover, the PNP’s campaign against loose or unlicensed firearms resulted in the recovery and surrender of 34,404 firearms.

“To ensure the safety and security of the public, we have intensified police presence and visibility in crime-prone areas and other public convergence points,” Acorda said. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
