LTO to address 2.4M driver's license backlog in 2 to 3 months

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is eyeing to address around 2.4 million driver’s license backlogs in two to three months.

This, as LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said that the temporary restraining order on the deliveries of cards had already expired.

“Sa lisensya tuloy po ang deliveries sa amin ‘no dahil nag-expire po ang temporary restraining order… This week, we received 200,000 cards. So all in all nakaka-300,000 na po ang ating supplier,” he said in an interview with reporters.

“Ang ating target is one million sana by the end of this month but ang delay kasi natin sa card nasa mga 2.4 million ang backlog natin sa cards e which we can easily wipe out kasi ang order naman natin nasa mga 5.2 million. So, in two to three months dapat wala nang backlog sa driver’s license,” he added.

In April, LTO announced that it will print out driver's licenses on paper due to the shortage of plastic cards.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced in July that the supply of plastic cards is expected to be back to normal in September after the Banner Plasticard Inc. delivered an initial five thousand pieces.

However, the company was not able to deliver and has also stopped production due to the temporary restraining order issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 215, ordering the LTO to temporarily stop the contract with the company.
