Ex-cop in road rage incident insists cyclist was wearing motorcycle gloves
Wilfredo Gonzales, the former policeman involved in a road rage incident, insisted on Tuesday that his vehicle had a dent after cyclist Allan Bendiola hit his car while wearing a pair of plastic-knuckled motorcycle gloves.
"Ang ginawa niya ho, sinuntok niya ho 'yung bubungan ng kotse ko na nakagwantes ho siya ng pang-motorsiklo, 'yung may mga knuckles po, may plastic. 'Yupi naman po kitang-kita naman ng mga imbestigador eh," Gonzales said during the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing into the viral road rage incident that took place in Quezon City last month.
(He punched my vehicle while wearing a glove with knuckles commonly used when riding motorcycles. Investigators saw the dent on my car.)
Senator JV Ejercito then showed a screenshot of the video of the incident in which Bandiola was not wearing gloves.
Bandiola also denied wearing gloves, "Wala po akong gloves."
Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, chairman of the Senate panel, then told Gonzales, "Mr. Gonzales, this picture won't lie, wala siyang suot na glove."
Gonzales maintained that he was not lying, and that other people saw Bandiola allegedly remove the gloves.
"Your Honor, hindi ako nagsisinungaling. May mga nakakita na ibang tao doon na baka ho nung bago ko siya abutan ay tinanggal na niya po dahil yupi nga ang kotse ko po. Hindi po mayuyupi nang bare hands lang po," Gonzales said.
(Your honor, I'm not lying. Other people saw that, maybe he removed it when I was about to confront him.)
"Mamatay man po 'yung buong pamilya ko," he added. (I swear it on my family's lives.)
In an interview with reporters, Dela Rosa said he thought Gonzales was lying.
"He was prone to commit grave threats," dela Rosa added.
Dela Rosa also mentioned that Gonzales was brought to the clinic as his blood pressure shot up.
In the viral video, Gonzales cursed at, hit, and even pulled out his gun during the altercation with Bandiola.
Gonzales and Bandiola both attended the Senate inquiry on the incident.
At the hearing, Gonzales said he pulled out his gun in self-defense.
"Ang intention ko po noon, bubunot po ako at nagkasa ng baril dahil pasugod po siya sa akin. Kahit i-review po natin 'yung [video], inamin naman niya na susugod po siya," Gonzales said.
(My intention when I pulled out my gun was to defend myself, even if we review the video. He also admitted that he was going to confront me.)
"Dinepensa ko lang po ang sarili ko at 45 degrees lang po, alam niyo naman po 'yun. Naka 45 degrees lang po pag gusto lang natin i-disable 'yung tao if ever susugurin niya ako," he added.
(I just defended myself. It's just 45 degrees if I want to disable the person, in case he charges at me.) — DVM, GMA Integrated News
