Cyclist: Cops didn’t arrest Gonzales as they didn’t find any gun
Cyclist Allan Bandiola disclosed on Tuesday that Quezon City policemen did not arrest Wilfredo Gonzales, the former cop involved in the road rage incident, because they supposedly did not see any gun in his possession.
Bandiola made the remark during the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing into the incident that took place in Quezon City last month.
"Sabi ni Sir Adan, 'Hindi namin puwedeng arestuhin si Ginoong Gonzales, wala naman kaming nakitang baril' Ganito na lang, sabi niya, tatawag tayo sa traffic sector para maayos 'to at magawan ng incident report," Bandiola told the Senate panel.
(Sir Adan said they could not arrest Mr. Gonzales because he said they didn't see any gun in his possession. He said we would just call the traffic sector so this would be settled and we could come up with an incident report.)
Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, chairperson of the Senate panel, told Bandiola that he should have insisted to the cop that Gonzales indeed had a gun.
"Dapat sinumbong mo, may baril 'yan, kinasahan ako," the senator, a former PNP chief, said.
(You could have told him that he had a gun.)
Bandiola said he insisted to the police officer that Gonzales was carrying a gun, however, the cop also maintained that he could not make an arrest.
The police officer involved, however, was not present in the Senate hearing.
The altercation between Gonzales and Bandiola happened on August 8 but the viral video of the incident surfaced on social media on August 27.
The Quezon City Police District already filed an alarm and scandal complaint against Gonzales following the road rage incident.
The Philippine National Police had said it is planning to file more criminal charges, including a complaint for grave threat, against the former policeman. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
