NDRRMC: Over P727M worth of infra damage reported due to Goring, Hanna, Habagat


Damage to infrastructure worth P727,251,200 has been reported so far due to the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Goring and Hanna, as well as of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

In its latest report, NDRRMC said most of the damage to infrastructure was reported in Ilocos with P597,000,000, followed by the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with P87,610,000.

Cagayan, meanwhile, reported P40,000,000 worth of infrastructure damage, while Mimaropa reported P2,641,200.

For agriculture, the NDRRMC said P623,796,960 worth of damage was reported in Cagayan, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas and CAR.

State of calamity was declared in Pototan and Leganes in Iloilo; Sibalom in Antique; and San Enrique, Bacolod, and Bago in Negros Occidental.

The death toll due to Goring, Hanna, and Habagat remained at two, which were reported in Western Visayas and CAR, according to the NDRRMC.

One person was reported missing in Western Visayas and another was injured in Central Luzon, it added.

A total of 514,016 people or 140,095 families were affected by the tropical cyclones and Habagat in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, CAR, and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Of the affected population, 2,737 individuals or 762 families were staying in 49 evacuation centers while 2,208 persons or 496 families were taking shelter in other places.

The NDRRMC said 1,378 houses were damaged — 1,138 partially and 240 totally— in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and CAR.

Power interruptions were still being experienced in three of the 48 affected areas in Western Visayas. Water supply problem was also still reported in one of the three affected areas in the same region.

Twenty-two passengers in Western Visayas were stranded as 79 of the 98 affected seaports in Cagayan, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas were still non-operational.

Due to the bad weather, a total of 380 classes and 138 work schedules were suspended.

Assistance worth P35,671,347 has been provided to the victims so far, the NDRRMC said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
