Ex-cop in viral QC road rage attends Senate inquiry

Former police officer Wilfredo Gonzales, the driver who was involved in a road rage incident in Quezon City, attended the Senate inquiry on Tuesday.

Cyclist Allan Bandiola was also present in the hearing held by the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.

Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, chairperson of the Senate panel, said he thought Gonzales would not arrive in the hearing because he was advised that the former policeman was sick.

“As of yesterday, alam ko hindi ka raw darating dahil meron kang sakit at you’re advised to rest ng doctor mo. Buti naman dumating ka,” Dela Rosa said.

(As of yesterday, I've learned that you were not supposed to attend the hearing because you’re sick and your doctor advised you to rest. It's good that you came.)

Dela Rosa then assured Gonzales that he would be safe in the Senate, adding that he would not die there.

“Huwag kang mag-alala. Hindi ka mamamatay dito. Kahit anong sakit mo hindi ka mamatay dito. Bumunot ka pa nga ng baril eh,” Dela Rosa said.

(Don’t worry, you won’t die here. No matter what illness you have, you won’t die here. You even pulled out a gun.)

A video went viral on social media where Gonzales was seen pulling out a gun during an altercation after the Bandiola's bicycle hit the former policeman's vehicle.

Gonzales said he and the cyclist went to a police station following the incident and settled their differences.

Bike enthusiast and lawyer Raymond Fortun, however, said that the cyclist was forced into an agreement admitting that the incident was his fault and was told to pay P500 for the damage to Gonzales’ car. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
