DPWH: Damage to infra due to Goring, monsoon rains reaches P379.6M

The damage to infrastructure resulting from the onslaught of Typhoon Goring and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon was estimated at over P300 million, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Friday.

In its report as of 12 p.m., the DPWH said the estimated damage caused by the weather disturbances on national roads, bridges, and flood-control structures has already reached P379.58 million.

Broken down, damage to roads amounted to P143.28 million, while damage to bridges and flood control structures stood at P13.44 million and P222.85 million, respectively.

Damaged infrastructure was recorded in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Regions 1 and 2.

The DPWH said a total of 24 roads have been reopened by its Quick Response Teams (QRTs).

The agency said the QRTs are still working on clearing a total of six road sections in CAR and Region 1 that remain closed to traffic, namely:

  • Abra-Ilocos Norte Road, San Gregorio, La Paz, Abra due to sinking pavement
  • Kennon Road, Camp One, Tuba, Benguet, as a precautionary measure
  • Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road, sections in Brgy. Namaltugan and Brgy. Ninoy, Calanasan, Apayao due to road cut and collapsed pavement
  • Dantay Sagada Road, Brgy. Antadao, Sagada, Mt. Province due to road cut, collapsed pavement
  • Ilocos Norte -Apayao Road, K0523+ 150 - K0530+600 (Intermittent Sections) in Ilocos Norte due to landslides
  • Roxas Bridge, Vigan-San Vicente Road in Ilocos Sur, due to a scoured bridge abutment

Meanwhile, the DPWH advised motorists to avoid two roads that are still one-lane passable to only light vehicles in Ilocos Sur and Batangas: Vigan Bridges 1 and 2 along Bantay-Vigan Road in Brgy. 1, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, which was partially impassable due to damaged abutment protection and bridge approach; and the Nasugbu-Lian-Calatagan Road, Brgy. Puting Kahoy, Lian, Batangas, which was partially passable due to a scoured shoulder and roadcut/collapsed pavement. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
