Classes at all levels, gov't work in NCR suspended on Sept. 1, 2023

Classes at all levels in both public and private schools and government work in Metro Manila for Friday, September 1, have been suspended by Malacañang due to the expected heavy rain caused by the Southwest Monsoon and the tropical cyclones enhancing it.

According to Memorandum Circular No. 30 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness and response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil later clarified that classes at all levels in both public and private schools on September 1 have been cancelled.

The suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.

As of Thursday, several streets in the NCR were flooded due to heavy rains.

State weather bureau PAGASA said Hanna, and Super Typhoon Saola (formerly Goring) which is already outside the PAR, and Severe Tropical Storm Kirogi which is still outside, will enhance the Southwest Monsoon.  —NB, GMA Integrated News
