DepEd: Revised K-10 curriculum to be piloted in 20 schools starting September
The pilot implementation of the recalibrated Kindergarten to Grade 10 (K-10) curriculum of basic education in several schools nationwide will begin next month, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday.
At a press conference, DepEd deputy spokesperson Assistant Secretary Francis Bringas said that around 20 schools in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, including the National Capital Region (NCR), will participate in the pilot program of the revised curriculum.
“‘Yung ating K-10 na recaliberated or revised curriculum under the K-12 will be piloted this year in selected schools… We’re looking at around 20 schools nationwide that will participate in the pilot study of the new curriculum,” he said.
The Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2), meanwhile, said in a hearing last week that 30 schools in six regions will join the pilot run.
The DepEd officially launched the new “Matatag” K-10 curriculum of the K-12 program earlier this month, ahead of the opening of School Year (SY) 2023-2024 on Tuesday, August 29.
Its phased implementation among learners in Kinder, Grade 1, Grade 4, and Grade 7 will begin in SY 2024-2025.
It will be followed by Grades 2, 5, and 8 in SY 2025-2026; Grades 3, 6 and 9 in SY 2026-2027; and Grade 10 in SY 2027-2028.
Bringas said the DepEd will collate all the findings in the pilot implementation of the K-10 curriculum in preparation for its phased implementation in the coming years.
“We will be consolidating all the findings and the results of this pilot so that we implement nationwide for Kinder, Grades 1, 4 and 7 by 2024-2025. It’s a staggered implementation of the new curriculum because the curriculum is so designed that before you go to the next higher grade level, in each key stage you have to master the competencies in the lower grade level,” he said.
The Education Department has yet to name the schools which will participate in the pilot study of the revised K-10 curriculum. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
