Close to 8,000 individuals affected by Goring —NDRRMC
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday said almost 8,000 individuals or over 2,000 families have been affected by Typhoon Goring.
According to the agency, a total of 7,919 persons or 2,302 families in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have been affected.
Of the total number, 1,948 individuals or 538 families are still in evacuation centers while 359 individuals or 107 families are temporary staying in other areas.
Meanwhile, 665 individuals or 152 families from the Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa were pre-emptively evacuated.
Data from the agency also show that a total of 58 flooding incidents were recorded in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.
The NDRRMC said that flooding has subsided in 10 areas while it is still receding in 13 areas.
Meanwhile, 13 roads and five bridges are not passable in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and CAR due to Goring.
According to the NDRRMC, over P25,000 worth of assistance has been provided to the Ilocos Region and CAR by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
There have been no reports of casualties, injured, or missing persons, the agency said.
The NDRRMC, however, said an estimated cost of damage to infrastructure amounting to P40 million was recorded in Cagayan Valley.
During a televised public briefing, NDRRMC spokesperson Edgar Posadas said its regional offices in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Mimaropa are on red alert.
Blue alert, meanwhile, is raised over CAR and Calabarzon, he said.
“Ang ibig sabihin lang nito is para nakatutok tayo talaga. Ipinag-utos ito ng ating kalihim… nagpalabas tayo ng order to raise our alert level to those mentioned earlier para mas intensive yung ating pag tutok doon sa pag responde,” he said.
(This is so we can closely monitor the situation. This was ordered by our chairman… we released an order to raise our alert level to those areas mentioned earlier so our monitoring is more intensive.)
PAGASA earlier announced that Signal No. 1 remains over portions of Cagayan and other areas in Northern Luzon as Goring weakens while moving over the Philippine Sea.
Goring is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning or afternoon. —Joahna Lei Casilao/KBK, GMA Integrated News
