Chinese vessels tried to ram Philippine boats too, says crew

Vessels of the China Coast Guard and Chinese fishing militia tried to ram into the boats of the Philippine resupply mission going to Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea last August 5, the Filipino crew said on Thursday.

According to Chino Gaston's report on "24 Oras," Philippine vessels managed to steer clear before they could be hit by the steel hulls of the Chinese ships.

However, the Philippine resupply mission was hit by water cannons. The supply of rice, vegetables, meat, and other goods meant for the crew of the BRP Sierra Madre got wet.

The resupply mission pushed through. One Philippine boat proceeded, while another had to turn back to Puerto Princesa.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines said resupply ships would return to the Ayungin Shoal to resupply the crew of the grounded Navy ship which serves as an outpost in the West Philippine Sea.

Food is now in limited supply at the BRP Sierra Madre. —NB/KG, GMA Integrated News
