Erwin Tulfo elected as House Deputy Majority Leader

ACT-CIS party-list representative and former Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo has been elected as one of the 18 House Deputy Majority Leaders.

The motion for Tulfo’s election for the House leadership post was made by House Senior Deputy Majority Leader Sandro Marcos of Ilocos Norte on Wednesday night, with no opposition from the plenary floor.

Tulfo, in an ANC interview on Thursday, said he was named to the new post mainly for information dissemination.

“This is for information dissemination. I came from the broadcast industry, my experience is that I have been a journalist for 20, 30 years. I will be using that to disseminate information to the public and [putting out the] stand of Congress [on various issues],” Tulfo said.

“The Speaker is a very busy person, he cannot attend to all [requests for interviews] and invitations, things like that…so, someone has to speak about what we are doing in Congress so people would know what is happening in Congress,” Tulfo added, referring to Speaker Martin Romualdez of Leyte.

Tulfo said he met Romualdez after being elected as Deputy Majority Leader and that they've talked about going after hoarders of agricultural products.

Tulfo, however, is not seeing a 2025 Senate run just yet, even if he ranked high in early poll surveys for the next senatorial race.

“I am happy where I am right now. I leave it up to God,” Tulfo added. —Llanesca T. Panti/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
