DOH: Dengue cases increasing since April; total at 85K
Dengue cases in the country have been continuously increasing since the first week of April, with the total caseload reaching 85,692 as of July 22, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.
The DOH said 9,916 dengue cases were recorded from June 25 to July 8 alone, which was 7% higher compared to the cases logged two weeks prior.
Mimaropa registered the highest incidence of dengue cases from June 25 to July 22, with 51 cases per 100,000 population.
This was followed by the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) which had 34 cases per 100,000 population; Davao Region with 25 cases per 100,000 population; Zamboanga Peninsula with 24 cases per 100,000 population; and Soccsksargen with 23 cases per 100,000 population.
Despite this, the DOH noted that the 85,692 dengue cases recorded nationally from January 1 to July 22 were 19% lower than the 106,517 cases reported during the same period in 2022.
It also stressed that the increase in dengue cases in the recent weeks was “expected because of the rainy season.”
“The agency is also continuously monitoring areas that are prone to flooding and were hit by the recent typhoon,” the Health Department said.
The DOH also reminded the public to remove any space or container that can hold unnecessary stagnant water which may become breeding sites of mosquitoes. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
