NDRRMC: Egay, Habagat reported death toll reaches 25 while 20 missing

The reported death toll due to the effects of Typhoon Egay and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) has climbed to 25, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said two of the total reported fatalities have been confirmed while 23 others are still for validation.

Twelve deaths were reported in Cordillera Administrative Region, eight in Ilocos, three in Calabarzon, and two in Western Visayas.

The NDRRMC said 20 people were still missing in Ilocos, Cagayan, and Cordillera.

At least 52 people were also reported injured.

A total of 2,397,336 people or 654,837 families were affected by Egay and Habagat in 4,111 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Bangsamoro, Cordillera, and the National Capital Region.

Of the affected population, 50,987 people or 13,828 families were staying inside 737 evacuation centers, while 262,008 people or 63,086 families were staying in other places.

A total of 35,855 houses were reported damaged—35,855 partially and 1,283 totally.

The cost of damage to infrastructure reached P3,510,282,156, while P1,965,320,443 worth of damage was reported for agriculture.

The NDRRMC reported 425 flooding incidents, 36 fallen trees, 16 landslides, 16 tornado/destructive wind incidents, and 1 maritime incident due to the inclement weather.

A total of 399 road sections and 32 bridges became impassable.

Power interruption was experienced in 306 cities and municipalities in the country. Water supply issues were reported in five areas. Communication line problems were also observed in 10 areas.

Due to the threat of the bad weather, a total of 85 domestic flights were canceled.

Currently, 145 seaports suspended operations, resulting to 248 passengers, 43 rolling cargoes, 22 vessels, and 27 motor bancas stranded.

A total of 448 classes and 355 work schedules were suspended.

A state of calamity was declared in 106 cities and municipalities.

Assistance worth P146,687,925 has been provided to the victims, according to the NDRRMC.

Egay exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. vowed that assistance will be provided to the victims of Egay, including those farmers whose crops have been damaged. —KG, GMA Integrated News
