NDRRMC: Reported death toll due to Egay, Habagat hits 16

Sixteen people have now reportedly died due to the combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and Typhoon Egay, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday.

NDRRMC’s latest situational report showed that 11 of the reported fatalities came from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), two each from Calabarzon and Western Visayas, and one from Ilocos Region.

Only one of these reported deaths were already confirmed, while the remaining 15 were still being validated.

Twenty individuals were also reportedly missing, while 52 were injured.

The NDRRMC said 1,029,724 people or 291,262 families were affected by the inclement weather in 2,615 barangays across the country.

Of them, 15,092 displaced people or 4,315 families were staying in 330 evacuation centers as of Sunday. On the other hand, 15,066 people or 3,762 families were seeking temporary shelters outside of evacuation centers.

Damage

The NDRRMC further said that the estimated cost of damage and losses of the bad weather to agriculture reached P1,501,183,483.27.

The estimated cost of damage to 270 infrastructure, meanwhile, hit P4,388,703,839.36.

There were also 21,978 houses damaged worth P344,000 because of Typhoon Egay and Habagat— 21,101 of which were partially damaged, and 877 were totally damaged.

Sixty-nine roads and three bridges also remained not passable.

There were 120 cities and municipalities that had interrupted power supply, two had interrupted water supply, while eight others had disrupted communication lines.

A total of P64,097,582.18 worth of assistance was already provided to the affected regions, the agency added.

Egay exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility late Thursday night, but Severe Tropical Storm Falcon which currently enhances the Habagat will now bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas in the next three days, according to PAGASA. —KG, GMA Integrated News
