NDRRMC validating 5 deaths due to Typhoon Egay


The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is validating five reported deaths amid the onslaught of Typhoon Egay.

"There are a total of 5 reported dead for validition, the additional four were from Benguet due to landslide. All of which are still for validation if related to Egay or Habagat," Office of Civil Defense information officer Diego Agustin Mariano said.

The NDRRMC also reported two injured individuals which are subject to validation, according to its situational report as of 8:00 a.m Thursday.

The total affected population is at 89,639 while total affected persons are 328,356 in 11 regions.

A total of 6,793 persons were pre-emptively evacuated from Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, MIMAROPA, Region 6 while there are 26,697 persons displaced.

So far, the NDRRMC has recorded 200 related incidents from Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region 5, Region 6, Region 8, Region 12, and BARMM.

As of 8:00 a.m. today, the total number of damaged infrastructures is 22, with an estimated cost of P1.7 million.

A total of 107 road sections and 19 bridge sections were affected by the typhoon, while there were 121 seaports that were affected as of 8:00 a.m. today.

In terms of power supply, 109 cities/municipalities experienced interruptions, of which 29 percent were already restored.

Meanwhile, two cities/municipalities faced water interruptions. None have been restored as of this morning.

Typhoon Egay also forced the suspension of classes in 442 cities/municipalities and work in 343 cities/municipalities.

A total of P10,296,443.21 worth of assistance were provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and local government units.

In the Tropical Cyclone Bulletin posted at 5 a.m., state weather bureau PAGASA reported that the eye of Typhoon Egay was estimated at 195 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 185 km/h, and central pressure of 955 hPa.

Egay continues to move northwestward at a speed of 15 km/h with strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 630 km from the center.
