NDRRMC: One reported dead, 2 hurt amid Egay's devastation
One person reportedly died while two others were injured as Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) dumped rains in parts of the country, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In its situational report on Wednesday morning, the NDRRMC said it is validating the death and the injuries.
“Hindi pa validated yung death, it is still subject to validation and we cannot assess the, kung gaano tayo nakapaghanda ng lubusan hangga't hindi matapos po itong emergency, nasa period po tayo ng rapid response,” said DND Secretary and NDRRMC chairman Gilberto Teodoro Jr said at a press briefing.
“Hindi natin ma-coconsider na minimal ang epekto nito kasi hindi pa tayo nag-aassess ng lubusan kung ano talaga ang nangyari dito,” he added.
He noted that the agency is conducting rapid assessments in various areas.
“Ikakalap itong data na to para may national picture po kung kailangan po, e sigurado pong kailangan, kung ano ang intervention na gagawin po ng national governmentt para matulungan ang mga LGUs po,” he said.
Teodoro also mentioned that NDRRMC has been preparing for the possible onslaught of the low pressure area while continuously monitoring the effects of Typhoon Egay.
“Nasa period po tayo ng rapid response para number one to serve our displaced countrymen, number two and to ensure that basic services are restored as soon as possible and the most important is to ensure that everybody as much as possible is safe,” Teodoro added.
Evacuations
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said a total of 44,356 families or 180,439 individuals were affected by Egay in eight regions, 21 provinces, 65 cities/municipalities and 261 barangays.
A total of 2,478 families, or 8,316 individuals, were preemptively evacuated. From that number, 1,069 persons are from Regions 1, 2, 3, and 6.
Displaced persons totaled 11,041, majority of whom stayed inside 107 evacuation centers.
No one has been reported missing so far.
Fifty-seven houses were damaged so far, with 49 partially damaged and eight totally damaged. The total estimated cost of damaged homes is P195,000.
Damage to infrastructure meanwhile has been estimated at P1,500,000 for nine damaged infrastructure.
The NDRRMC has not yet provided the estimated cost of damage to agriculture.
Meanwhile, a total of 8,949 passengers, 1,745 rolling cargoes, 79 vessels, and 25 motor bancas were stranded in 97 seaports, it added.
As for power, 51 cities and municipalities in Regions 1, 2, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, 5, 6, and 8 had power outage, but six of them had their power restored as of Wednesday morning.
One city/municipality in Region 5 meanwhile had its water supply affected by Egay.
A total of P1,453,983.30 worth of assistance has so far been extended in Regions 1, 6, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa. These represent 1,812 family food packs, hygiene kit, and meals.
The accumulated fund from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units is currently P1,049,584.
As of Tuesday, DSWD reported a total of P2,167,720,884.27 available relief resources.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4 remains in effect over parts of Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte on Wednesday morning due to Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri), PAGASA said in its 8 a.m. bulletin.
Several other areas were also placed under TCWS Nos. 3, 2, and 1.
Egay is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning, the weather bureau said.
Classes and government work for Wednesday, July 26, were canceled in some areas due to the bad weather caused by Egay. —KG/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
