Pulse Asia survey shows most Filipinos back stronger PH-US ties —Zubiri

A Pulse Asia survey showed that most Filipinos are in favor of the Philippines' boosting its partnership with the US in the middle of the South China Sea dispute, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri disclosed Monday.

Zubiri said the Pulse Asia poll indicated that 75 percent were in favor "of strengthening the military ties between the US and the Philippines amid the security tension in the West Philippine Sea.

Fourteen percent said they were not in favor.

Two percent of the respondents said they didn’t have enough knowledge to give an opinion while eight percent answered, “can’t say.”

Zubiri said the data proved that the majority of Filipinos welcomed support from the US military.

GMA News Online has sought confirmation from Pulse Asia.

On Sunday, Zubiri expressed his intention to support Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros’ resolution which urges the Marcos administration to raise China’s continuous aggression in the West Philippine Sea before the United Nations General Assembly.

“We shouldn’t stop at just the Arbitral Ruling but we should follow up with the Hague on what is actually going on the ground by China,” Zubiri said.

“We should present to the UN the repeated incursions and violations of China against the Hague Arbitral ruling on the West Philippine Sea,” he added.

Zubiri said Hontiveros’ resolution is expected to be tackled upon the first week of the Senate's resumption of session.

“By Tuesday, pag-debatihan po natin ‘yan. I’m sure we can get the majority to vote in favor of this resolution,” said Zubiri. —NB, GMA Integrated News
