Gov't pushes for Kadiwa stalls in LGUs nationwide

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Various government agencies pushed for the establishment of Kadiwa stalls in local government units (LGUs) across the Philippines.

On Monday, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. attended the signing of the memorandum of agreement on the establishment of Kadiwa ng Pangulo nationwide.

"This agreement, we have expanded it for the whole of the country but as I always remind everyone, just because naglagay tayo ng Kadiwa, hindi ibig sabihin sapat na 'yung ating produksyon (just because we put Kadiwa stalls, it doesn't mean production is enough)," Marcos told reporters.

"Kaya 'yung ngayon, maganda 'yan, mayroon na tayong Kadiwa kung saan may sistema para makamura naman ang taumbayan sa mga bilihin," Marcos added.

(Kadiwa is good because we have a system where consumers can purchase cheaper products.)

The agreement was signed by the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Presidential Management Staff (PMS), and the Philippine Communications Office (PCO).

The pact formalizes the partnership of the said agencies to collaborate and support the local government units in establishing Kadiwa stalls in their respective localities.

These stalls will be facilitated by concerned agencies every 15th and 30th of the month in which local farmers will sell their products to consumers.

Earlier, the President said there are more than 500 Kadiwa stalls across the country catering to the basic needs of consumers at a cheaper price.

During the holiday season last year, the Marcos administration started a substantial number of Kadiwa stores and outlets all over the country as part of its measures to ensure food security and help consumers from rising prices. —KG, GMA Integrated News
