Marcos cancels Cordillera Day attendance due to bad weather

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has canceled his visit to Apayao to grace the 36th Cordillera Day celebration due to bad weather conditions, Malacañang announced Saturday.

“Due to inclement weather, the PSG (Presidential Security Group) has advised to cancel President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s visit to Apayao today,” the Presidential Communications Office said.

The Palace has earlier declared July 15 as a special non-working holiday in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), which covers the provinces of Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Baguio City to mark the 36th anniversary of the creation of the administrative region since 1987.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised on Friday night over Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, along with other provinces in Northern Luzon due to Tropical Depression Dodong.

However, all TCWS were already lifted on Saturday morning.

Dodong maintained its strength as it continued to move over the West Philippine Sea on Saturday morning, PAGASA said. It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between Saturday afternoon and Sunday early morning. —KG, GMA Integrated News
