DOJ to look into ‘sexy dance numbers’ after NBI command conference
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Wednesday said the Justice Department will look into all videos of the dance performances that took place before officials of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after a command conference on June 30.
“Ngayon titignan natin, titimbangin natin. Lahat ng video tape ng sayaw pag aaralan natin kung gaano kalaswa. Kung ito ba ay isa talagang masamang gawain na nakita na lumanta sa isang pagsasama ng isang liderato ng NBI,” Remulla said at a media briefing.
(We’re looking into it and we’re weighing it. We will check how obscene all the videotapes of the performances are. If this is really bad to have happened in a gathering of NBI officials.)
Remulla previously said that three women performed during the conference.
He stressed that there were also top officials present.
“Maaring nakaalis na si Director [Medardo] De Lemos ngunit meron pang mataas na ranggo na naroroon sa pangyayaring ‘yun. Aalamin natin,” Remulla said.
(Maybe De Lemos was already gone but there were still top officials there. We will see.)
When asked if De Lemos is off the hook as he was already gone during the performances, Remulla said, “No.” He added that nobody is off the hook.
Despite this, he said they already knew the individual who must be held accountable, but that the situation must still be studied.
Remulla said he also want to talk to female agents or the staff present.
“Yes, gusto ko kausapin yung mga female na NBI na naroon o kaya makausap man lang ang staff para malaman kung ano yung kanilang naging pakiramdam nung may sasayaw sa harap nila,” he said.
(I want to talk to the female NBI there or even just the staff to find out what they felt.)
GMA News Online has sought comment from the NBI but has yet to receive a response as of posting time.
De Lemos had apologized for the dance performance, saying the agency is looking into who allowed the dancers to perform.
De Lemos said the incident is under investigation to find out who brought the sexy dancers to the post-conference "fellowship."
“Kung naging offensive man ang pagsasayaw na ito after the command conference sa sensibilities ng ating mamamayan lalo na ang mga kababaihan, humihingi po kami ng paumanhin,” De Lemos said at a news conference last week.
(If this dance after the command conference offended the sensibilities of our citizens particularly the women, we apologize.)
Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito had also described as “immoral” the “sexy” number.
But for comedian Long Mejia, there was nothing lewd with the performance of dancers at the socials.
According to John Consulta’s report on “24 Oras,” Mejia was also at the NBI event where he and the dancers were invited to perform.
“Sexy na masagwa? Hindi, wala akong nakitang ganu'n e. Kasi sinasyaw nila sa national TV 'yan e. Napapanood 'yan e,” Mejia said.
“Wala akong nakitang masagwa sa sayaw nila,” he added. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
