NBI chief De Lemos apologizes over ‘sexy dance’ after command conference

National Bureau of Investigation director Medardo De Lemos has apologized over the "sexy dance" performance before NBI officials after a command conference on June 30.

De Lemos said the incident is under investigation to find out who brought the sexy dancers to the post-conference "fellowship."

"Kung naging offensive man ang pagsasayaw na ito after the command conference sa sensibilities ng ating mamamayan lalo na ang mga kababaihan, humihingi po kami ng paumanhin," De Lemos said in a news conference.

(If this dance after the command conference offended the sensibilities of our citizens particularly the women, we apologize.)

De Lemos said the NBI is looking into who allowed the dancers to perform at the socials.

"Aalamin natin kung sino ang dapat managot sa pagkakamali na ito. We will never tolerate indecency in the agency," De Lemos said.

(We will find out who should be made accountable for the mistake.)

"We will not hesitate to dismiss if dismisal is the penalty," he added.

‘Misbehavior’

The dance performance caught the attention of the Department of Justice.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Thursday said that the DOJ would investigate the "sexy dance," a video which has gone viral.

“Definitely, we do not like this to happen, no. We will investigate it also,” Remulla said at a press briefing.

“These are the forms of misbehavior that we don’t need in the country,” he added.

Senators Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa and Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito on Friday described as “immoral” the ''sexy" number.

“If that is not illegal, that is definitely immoral,” Dela Rosa said in a text message.

Ejercito said the dance was inappropriate in a government agency’s event.

“'Di rin ako makapaniwala. It’s really inappropriate, immoral. Talagang hindi s’ya karapat dapat,” Ejercito told reporters in an online interview.

(I couldn't believe it... It should not have happened.)

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said he would question the NBI about this event in the upcoming budget deliberations.

“During the next budget deliberations, I will ask the NBI why this happened,” Pimentel said in a text message to GMA News Online.

‘Nothing lewd’

Comedian Long Mejia, who was with the dancers at the said NBI event, said there was nothing lewd with the performance of the dancers at the socials after a National Bureau of Investigation command conference last week.

According to John Consulta's report on "24 Oras," Mejia was also at the NBI event where he and the dancers were invited to perform.

"Sexy na masagwa? Hindi, wala akong nakitang ganu'n e. Kasi sinasyaw nila sa national TV 'yan e. Napapanood 'yan e," Mejia said.

(Sexy and lewd? No, I didn't see anything like that. The dance that they did, they also perform on national TV. That is widely watched.)

"Wala akong nakitang masagwa sa sayaw nila," he added.

(I didn't see anything inappropriate with their dance.)

The video of the performances which Mejia posted on his vlog was one of the reasons why the "sexy dance" became public. —NB, GMA Integrated News
