DOJ issues shows-cause order on prosecutor in gun-toting incident

The Department of Justice has issued a show-cause on the prosecutor who was caught on video carrying a firearm while arguing with a delivery rider.

In an ambush interview, Justice spokesman Mico Clavano said the Justice department does not condone any violent behavior.

“Hindi po pwede na ganyan ang behavior ng mga prosecutors natin dito sa departmento, lalong lalo na na sila ‘yung entrusted sa administration ng law, ng justice system sa ating bansa,” he said.

(Such behavior is not acceptable for our prosecutors in our department, especially since they are entrusted with the administration of the law, and the justice system in our country.)

“So these types of behavior will not be tolerated. We will have to give him the due process of giving his explanation and we will see to it that this case is resolved accordingly,” he added.

In the video, the prosecutor asked the driver why he was “speeding” and if he was on a highway. He also appeared to hit the driver with his left hand while holding a firearm on his right.

Clavano said a show-cause order was issued to the QC prosecutor on June 26, Monday. The prosecutor then filed his explanation on the order.

Clavano said the matter would be forwarded to Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento and would be handled by the Prosecution Integrity Board.

He said the prosecutor also filed a complaint before the DOJ.

"As the nature of that complaint, we have yet to receive a report but that is the latest information that I have received," he added.

“We will definitely look into this serious allegation and his explanation with much vigor, hoping that we preserve the integrity… of the National Prosecution Service,” Clavano said.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
